A contact list is a reusable group of contacts that you can invite to multiple surveys. You can enter contacts manually or upload them from a file. You can use contact lists to easily distribute multiple surveys to the contacts on the list without having to import a file over and over again.
Create a contact list
- Go to Account and click on Contacts.
- Click on Contact lists.
- Click on Create new list.
- Give the list a name and, optionally, a description, and click on Create.

Import contacts into a contact list
- From the Contacts Lists overview click on Actions next to the list and click on Import.
Or open a list and click on the the blue button and then choose Import from file. - Select your file and click on Upload.
- Select the columns that you want to import and click on Continue.
- If your list also contains contacts without an email address, select Yes for Import rows without an email address? If not, you can leave it at No.
- Select the default language. This language will be used if you didn’t select a language column in step 2. Fields, or if there are blanks in the language column.
- Click on Continue.
- Select whether or not you’d like to save this import as a configuration. An import configuration contains all the settings for an import including the column mappings, and how your data should be handled. You can still make changes each time. If you import the same kind of file regularly, you can save your configuration and re-use it later.
- Click on Continue.
- The next page shows an overview of all of your selections. You can still go back and make changes if necessary. If all is ok, click on Start import.
You can continue working in CheckMarket while the import is running. You’ll receive an email as soon as the import is finished with an overview of the number of contacts successfully imported, and, if any were unsuccessful, the reason why.
Update contacts that are already in a list
In order to mass-update contacts in a list, simply export the entire list into excel, make your changes and import the file again. The correct fields will automatically be selected based on the headers in excel.

Share a contact list
You can share contact lists with other users in your account. That way you’re in full control of who can access a particular list and who can’t. As you know, controlling access to personal data is high on our priority list – and should be on yours too – especially considering General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Please note that the account administrator will always have access to all contact lists.
The account administrator or user administrator can always give access to contact lists via the Users menu, but you can share your own lists with others as well by following these steps:
- Go to the contact list.
- Click on Actions next to the list you’d like to share.
- Click on Share.

- Select everyone you want to share the list with. Then click on Save.

I don’t see the ‘Contact lists’ option?
Contact lists are only available to the account administrator and users with Manage contacts rights. If you don’t see this option, please contact your account administrator so they can give you access. Their contact details are mentioned under Account.

Are contact lists the same as the old ‘Groups’?
Those of you who have been working with CheckMarket long enough may find similarities with our old ‘Groups’. (if ‘Groups’ doesn’t ring a bell, don’t worry, they’re gone anyway :-) )
The contact lists are entirely different, though.
- First of all, contact lists are not required anymore. If your target group and/or metadata change with each survey, simply import contacts directly by uploading a file. There’s absolutely no need to create a list. Lists are only of value when you use contacts with the same metadata over and over.
- There are no folders anymore. All lists are immediately visible from the Contact Lists page.
- An email address can exist only once in the same list. Files that you import into a list will automatically strip doubles. If you need an email address more than once in a particular survey, import your file directly into that survey.
- Restrict access to a list. You yourself decide who can see your list and who can’t. If, for any reason, someone is not allowed to have access to the list you’re creating, simply don’t share it with that person. They won’t be able to see it. If you share your list with someone, they’ll be able to see and modify it from within their own account.
